Shooting Low Key

Since reading this article online a while back, I have been been meaning to try my hand at some low key shots.

I already had a seamless black background and off camera flash so created a basic set up then took a few shots. I can see that you can put many twists on this by changing the setup (moving the light source etc) but thought I'd start with a few basic shots then revisit at a future stage when I've got more time!

Here are how a few of the initial shots came out.

Skiing 2012 - Part 1

Got back from an excellent skiing trip last Sunday and after a busy week back at work I've only just now had the time to knock up a post about it.

Brilliant skiing conditions this year with lots of snow and fresh powder throughout the week although unseasonably cold for the French Alps. Skiing temperatures ranged from -10 to -30ÂșC!!

Anyway, I decided to take my trusty old PowerShot S2 as it is smaller and lighter than my dSRL so easier to take out on the slopes and does still produces some great photos. Well, after travelling over to France and missing a night of sleep we arrived at our chalet and the winter wonderland so I grabbed the camera and switched it on. I was presented with the "Please Change Batteries" message - I had only just charged them up before travelling out but tried another fresh set anyway and got the same message!! Tried a few things but could not get the camera to work so gave up and decided you use my iPhone 4 for the trip.

Didn't take too many pictures due to lack of proper camera but here are a few of the iPhone snaps. I will put some others on a future post.

I think that I have now managed to fix the problem that I had with the S2 thanks to This Post I never even knew the camera had a separate battery until I read that - Doh!!
