Previously, I have always used my Canon Powershot S2 for this photography as it has excellent macro and 0cm focusing supermacro functions but since buying a Canon EOS 450D DSLR I've been interested in trying that out.
Macro lenses can be very expensive but I have read some good things about a cheaper equivalent. These are in the form of lens adapters which screw on to the filter threads of an existing lens and provide various levels of magnification allowing closer focusing. I spotted a set of these on eBay for about £15 and thought I'd give them a go. The set includes 4 adapters ranging from 1x to 10x magnification.

Yes, they are...I got hold of mine on ebay.
Try searching for something like '58mm macro lens' - 58mm is the size of the standard kit lens for a EOS 450D.
Cool. I shall look into these. I've just got a 450d and on a bit of a budget buying-spree so these should do nicely. I got a hoya IR filter btw but not ha much success with it. Taking the WB shot results in a black image and ensuing IR shots are really dark even at 30 s shutter. I guess I'll read you r instructions again to make sure I'm doing it right.
They are well worth the money. I paid around £15 including postage for mine. Have only used the strongest 10+ lens so far but I'l sure I'll get round to using the others at somepoint.
Good luck with the IR photography...follow the steps and you should see some results. Needs to be a pretty bright day to get better shots. If you are still having problems then let me know and I will try and help if I can.

I have those macro filters, they are pretty good. They work very nicely with flowers and bugs although one time i got to close and fell on ants but thats a different story. They good cheap alternative to a macro lens
